During the global COVID-19 pandemic, I have kept myself busy with designing and creating figurative sculptures that continue my love of creativity.
After many days of sketching figurative poses whilst enjoying the outdoor sunshine, and with the extra benefit of being completely socially distanced!... this creation was born from my sketches, with the use of found objects and materials such as flint rocks, combined with clay which was formed and left overnight to harden.
During the semi-hardening process, I carefully created the 'void' of which represents the area of negative space between the arm and shoulder, such as when one places the hand on the hip. This was done by carefully modelling with a paint brush handle.
After the figure was completely hardened, the forming process continued by using files and finished with a coat of off-white acrylic paint and completed with a clear wax which was buffed for a protective finish.
